Liturgical Renewal and Understanding
the Mass
Liturgy means work of the people. Within the
Catholic Church, it is used to describe all the
public acts of worship that take place, as it
draws the people into the work of God. Liturgy is more than
the words that are said, or rituals enacted.
We will examine Catholic liturgy, understanding that liturgy
is always an action one in which every member of the
community has a part to play; each according to the sacred
order assigned by Christ. This then calls for the entire
community to be properly instructed in the mysteries of the
liturgy, lest the experience of worship simply becomes a
form of ritualism. Through liturgy, we encounter God, and we
are united with our brothers and sisters across the world as
the Universal Church.
